| Open Source in Schools |

Once in a while we organize our monthly meeting around a single topic inviting several guests to present and show us different angles of the same problem. November meeting will be one of those meetings and we'll try to cover Open Source deployments in schools! BLUG members have been interested and involved in such projects almost since its inception, and 6 years later we're apparently able to deliver something of value. This hasn't happened by chance, on our way we found a few other organizations interested in the same goal and willing to make it happen. Our approach has been that IT is much more than office suite teaching and can be used to stimulate learning and retention among children. We've also wanted to incorporate today's Internet knowledge training to schools without needing an Internet connection.
Based on all this we'll be welcoming the current team working on a migrant workers children school deployment around Beijing, that is Julien, our Chuan'r Czar, Sun Liantao, former Beiyou OSS club leader and now working at CSIP, Jason Wu from Dexxon, Sun Liwen BLUG and LEAD member and Pockey Lam our current President (and maybe more contributors). In one evening they will try to cover customizing your preferred Linux distribution, selecting the right applications and the right User Interface, building a school server, creating the Open Education content based on those applications and services available, training the teachers, using and deploying classroom management tools such as iTalc and how it's all coming together!
